Law Offices of Kim Parker, P.A. Files Lawsuit on behalf of Estate of Carmelita Rosemary Ford against Dr. Monisola Adeyemo and Lakewood Family Clinic for Wrongful Death

Prince Georges County, Maryland – The Law Offices of Kim Parker, P.A., along with The Law Offices of Sean Day, LLC, announced today that they have filed a lawsuit on behalf of the Estate of Carmelita Rosemary Ford against Dr. Monisola Adeyemo and Lakewood Family Clinic for the wrongful death of Mrs. Ford.
The lawsuit alleges that Dr. Adeyemo, a family nurse practitioner at Lakewood Family Clinic, failed to diagnose and treat Mrs. Ford’s gastric cancer in a timely manner, resulting in the progression of the disease to a terminal stage and ultimately her death on January 5, 2024.
The complaint alleges that Dr. Adeyemo breached the standard of care by failing to order an esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) after a PET scan in December 2018 revealed potential serious abnormalities in Mrs. Ford’s stomach, and by disregarding her repeated complaints of abdominal pain and other symptoms consistent with gastric distress.
The lawsuit also alleges that Lakewood Family Clinic was negligent in its hiring, retention, and training of Dr. Adeyemo, which contributed to the substandard care provided to Mrs. Ford.
“Mrs. Ford’s family is devastated by her untimely passing,” said Kim Parker, Esq., founder of the Law Offices of Kim Parker, P.A. “We believe that Dr. Adeyemo’s negligence and Lakewood Family Clinic’s failures were a direct cause of Mrs. Ford’s death. We are committed to seeking justice for Mrs. Ford’s estate and holding those responsible accountable.”
Unfortunately, Mrs. Ford’s case is not an isolated incident. According to the American Cancer Society, over 200,000 new cases of stomach cancer are diagnosed each year in the United States, and many more cases go undiagnosed or misdiagnosed due to delayed or missed diagnoses.
Delayed or missed diagnoses can have devastating consequences for patients and their families. “When doctors fail to diagnose cancer in a timely manner, patients are often left with limited treatment options and a significantly reduced chance of survival,” said Parker. “The effects of delayed diagnosis can be catastrophic, causing unnecessary suffering and premature death.”
The lawsuit also highlights the need for increased awareness and education about the importance of timely diagnoses and proper treatment for cancer patients.
“We urge healthcare providers to prioritize patient care and take all necessary steps to ensure that patients receive timely and accurate diagnoses,” said Parker. “We also urge patients to advocate for themselves and seek a second opinion if they are not satisfied with their diagnosis or treatment plan.”
Using family nurse practitioners (FNPs) in healthcare can have both benefits and risks. Understanding these risks, particularly in the context of medical malpractice, is important for both patients and healthcare providers. FNPs may lack the extensive training of physicians, resulting in potential diagnostic errors, especially in complex or rare medical conditions. Moreover, reliance on clinical guidelines without individualized assessment can lead to oversights in patient care. Moreover, Poor communication between FNPs and other healthcare providers may result in fragmented care and increase the likelihood of errors.
The lawsuit seeks damages for the wrongful death of Mrs. Ford, including compensation for her pain and suffering, medical expenses, and funeral costs.
